NEW PALTZ, NY – The Buffalo State softball team opened action in the SUNYAC Tournament today as it defeated Oswego with an 8-2 final to advance into the double-elimination bracket. The Bengals then dropped their first game against Cortland, 1-0, at Mary Gray Deane Field.

How it happened
- The Buffalo State offense came out swinging with a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-run double from Paolilli.
- The Bengals added four more runs in the second inning after a two-run single from Stewart, an RBI double from Pezdek, and a sacrifice fly from Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South).
- Oswego was held silent until the fourth inning. After pushing across its first run of the game, the Bengals added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
- The Lakers attempted to rally late, but the Buffalo State defense shined to close the door on their first win of the tournament.

- After each side faced the minimum through the first inning and a half, Cortland broke through with the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning.
- Both teams were locked in a pitchers' duel as neither offense got a runner past second base the rest of the game.
- The Red Dragons retired the Bengals in order in the seventh to secure the win.
For the foes
- Gianna Endieveri earned the win in the circle, going five innings and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
