BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sam Christian (Cockermouth, England/Cockermouth) and Stephen Haven (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) of the Buffalo State men's soccer team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Christian, a sophomore business major, was a staple for the Bengals in a 3-0 week as he totaled five points with a pair of goals and an assist. He scored his first goal as a Bengal on Tuesday against Brockport and followed it up with the game-winning goal against Bryant & Stratton to open the Fredonia Classic on Friday. Christian then tallied an assist on the game-winning goal Saturday against Heidelberg for a fourth straight Buffalo State win.
Haven, a senior economics major, also posted a strong week for the Bengals. Haven scored in each game of the Fredonia Classic with a goal against the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats and another against Heidelberg. He also anchored a strong Bengal defense that posted back-to-back shutouts in the Fredonia Classic as Buffalo State did not allow a shot against Heidelberg.
The men's soccer team returns to action tomorrow as they will travel to RIT to battle the Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
