BUFFALO, N.Y. – As the D'Youville University Athletics Department continues its call for nominations for the 2026–27 Athletics Hall of Fame Class—the fifth group to be enshrined among the university's highest athletic honors—the Saints are also taking time to celebrate the individuals whose vision and leadership helped shape the foundation of D'Youville Athletics.
Among those being recognized is 2022–23 Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Troy Tucker, whose leadership as director of athletics ushered in a new era of growth and positioned D'Youville for long-term success.
Serving as director of athletics from 1996-99, Tucker oversaw one of the most transformative periods in department history. His leadership was instrumental in guiding D'Youville into NCAA Division III membership, laying the groundwork for the university's future as an NCAA institution and setting the stage for decades of athletic growth.

Tucker also dramatically expanded opportunities for student-athletes during his tenure. When he arrived, D'Youville sponsored just three varsity sports. By the end of his time in Buffalo, that number had tripled to nine varsity programs.
Under Tucker's leadership, the Saints added baseball, softball, men's and women's cross country, and men's soccer to the athletics department while elevating men's volleyball from club status to a varsity program. His commitment to expanding athletic opportunities allowed more student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level while strengthening the university's overall athletics profile.
Beyond D'Youville, Tucker emerged as a respected voice in collegiate athletics, particularly for smaller institutions. During the 1997-98 academic year, he was recognized as the National Small College Director of the Year, an honor that reflected his innovative leadership and commitment to advancing opportunities for student-athletes.
Tucker's impact also extended nationally through his role as the founder and commissioner of the Independent Small College Athletic Association, where he championed collaboration and competitive opportunities for like-minded institutions across the country.
His contributions to D'Youville Athletics went well beyond administration. Tucker also spent time on the sidelines, serving as head coach of the men's and women's basketball teams as well as the softball program, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to developing student-athletes and growing the department from every angle.
The foundation Tucker established during his three years as director of athletics continues to benefit D'Youville today. His vision for expanding varsity opportunities, achieving NCAA membership, and advocating for small-college athletics helped transform the Saints into a program positioned for sustained success.
His induction into the 2022–23 D'Youville Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes not only his accomplishments during his tenure, but also the lasting legacy of leadership that continues to shape D'Youville Athletics for future generations.
