BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mayor Sean Ryan today joined local business owners in the Electric District to celebrate the launch of District Live, a new entertainment and public activation initiative led by the Electric District Alliance. The initiative aims to bring new energy, visitors, and economic activity to downtown Buffalo.
Centered around Ellicott and Mohawk streets, the initiative will feature a year-round lineup of events and activities designed to attract residents, workers, and visitors to downtown Buffalo. Programming will include Friday night concerts, pickleball and bocce leagues, soccer watch parties, Jazz Sundays, a district-wide jazz festival, Chalkfest, an Oktoberfest celebration, a holiday market, and other family-friendly events throughout the year.
“Building a Better Buffalo means creating vibrant public spaces where people want to gather, spend time, and support local businesses,” Mayor Sean Ryan said. “Initiatives like District Live help bring new life to our downtown by creating activity beyond the traditional workday, supporting small businesses, and showcasing everything Buffalo has to offer. I want to thank the businesses of the Electric District for working together to make this vision a reality.”
District Live is being organized by the Electric District Alliance, a coalition of local businesses and property owners that includes Signature Development, Big Ditch Brewing Company, Mohawk Place, Streetlight Brasserie, Tappo Restaurant, House of Charm, and other partners committed to strengthening downtown Buffalo. Together, the group has raised approximately $300,000 to support programming and events throughout the year.
“Activating the streets is economic development,” said Rocco Termini, owner of Signature Development. “When you activate the streets, you increase the chances of creating additional business downtown.”
