Seamus O'Keefe, a sixth grader at St. Peter's Middle School in Lewiston, has been accepted for admission to the grade six elite soccer program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
O'Keefe, 12, has played premier league soccer in Western New York since he was 6. Last season, he was a striker and leading goal scorer for the top-ranked Empire United U12 team and has played for the Empire Pre-Development Soccer Academy in Rochester for the last three years. He is currently playing with the WNY U13 (birth year 2008) team. Jason Peters, the head coach of the U13 and U14 teams at IMG, selected O'Keefe for the elite team.
IMG, a boarding and day school, is known for its skills development programs and teams that compete at a top level in several sports, both for boys and girls. The tennis program founded by Nick Bollitieri, is now headed by Jimmy Arias, formerly of Grand Island, who played on the pro tour. IMG is also the home this summer for the WNBA.
