I've covered the Sabres and National Hockey League for The Buffalo News since November 2018. My previous work included coverage of the Pittsburgh Pirates and University of Pittsburgh athletics for DKPittsburghSports.com.
With the Sabres set to begin a crucial West Coast trip Monday night in Los Angeles, Buffalo News Sabres writers Lance Lysowski and Mike Harrington break down the key issues for the second half of the season.
“The issue that we had (Saturday), it's not going to be solved with strategy,” said Granato. “It's going to be solved with work ethic and that was the message before practice, that we were going to have probably our hardest practice of the year. It was right up there with it.”
The Sabres have the most games remaining, but claiming points from those games in hand won't be easy. Buffalo has the most road games left among the five teams, and the 17 games against current playoff teams are tied with the Islanders for the most.
No one involved with the Sabres expected Peterka and fellow rookie winger Jack Quinn to have a seamless transition to the NHL. Both have made remarkable plays, but they’ve endured through some difficult games.
The most experienced players on the roster are urging the youngest in the group to not ride the rollercoaster of emotions. Nothing can change past results, so the Sabres’ focus was on preparing for their game Wednesday night in Anaheim against the Ducks.
