Here are five things to know about new Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams:

Playing career. The 45-year-old from Clarence who played 11 years in the NHL with six teams (Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Phoenix Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks) and won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Carolina Panthers in 2006. Totaled 540 regular-season games with 59 goals, 77 assists and 317 penalty minutes. He was a first-round pick by Boston in 1993 but never played for the Bruins.

D.C. ties: Adams was the first player born in Washington, D.C., to reach the NHL, but he spent most of his youth in Western New York. He moved back to the area when his playing career was finished.

Sabres ties. Adams originally joined the Sabres in 2009 as player development coach and served as assistant coach from 2011-2013.  He was named vice president and director of the Academy of Hockey at LECOM Harborcenter in October 2013,  a year before the facility opened. He was named general manager of HarborCenter in January 2019 and Sabres' senior vice president of business administration last September.

Time as an agent: After his playing career, Adams briefly spent time with O2K Worldwide Management Group as a player agent. The agency was started by Matt Oates and Eustace King, his college teammates at Miami (Ohio). "There's a million agents out there, but what's really exciting in this opportunity and what I really want to bring is be in charge of player development for the company," Adams told ESPN in 2009. "That's going to be my niche."

Running the business side: Adams' role with the Sabres did not involve hockey operations. He was strictly handling the business side of the organization and was the one to address the issues with jersey misspellings and fan frustration with the product. Asked how the Sabres could regain the trust of the fans, he told The News in February, "It’s earning the respect every day. It’s doing the little things. The way I like to think about it is, are we a little bit better today than we were yesterday? There’s an accountability in our organization where things are going to happen sometimes. You’re going to make mistakes, whatever that might be. How do we learn? How do we get better? I believe if you do that, day in and day out, then those little things add up to bigger things and the trust will be earned. I truly believe our fans want to come to the arena and love this team and be excited about it. We have to continue as an organization, across every area, to get better."
