The baseball schedule is packed for Tuesday and for anyone looking to wager on the action, we've got our favorite MLB player props for May 23.
May 23 MLB props: Yu Darvish and Gerrit Cole props, plus more for Tuesday
Below are our best bets for May 23 including MLB player props for some of the game's biggest stars such as Gerrit Cole, Yu Darvish, and more.
New York Yankees props: Gerrit Cole over 18.5 outs recorded (-105 or better)
The Yankees and Orioles enter the series riding four and three-game winning streaks, respectively. This isn’t an easy matchup for Gerrit Cole, but it’s the type of regular-season contest in which he is expected to deliver.
Baltimore is rock solid offensively, featuring a patient lineup that doesn’t strikeout too often. The latter plays into Cole’s hands in this spot as we’re looking for length. Cole’s 2.87 walks-per-nine is his highest walk rate since 2018, but we still like him to step up at home.
MLB plyer props: Ronald Acuña over 1.5 total bases (-115 or better)
Ronald Acuña is enjoying what looks like an MVP campaign and is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak. He’s batting .333 with a .681 slugging percentage, so he’s inflicting heavy damage on a daily basis.
We don’t want to undersell the challenge of seeing a pitcher for the first time — Bobby Miller is making his big league debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, it’s a lot for a rookie pitcher to handle.
Miller is a pure power pitcher, which is a gift and a curse in this spot, especially if the extra adrenaline leads him to serve up a center cut fastball or hanging slider against one of the game’s most dangerous hitters.
MLB prop bets today: Yu Darvish over 5.5 strikeouts (-105 or better)
Yu Darvish struggled his last time out — against the lowly Kansas City Royals — but he’s pitched well this season overall. He completed at least six innings in five of eight starts and punched out at least six in five starts as well.
Length will be key for Darvish tonight. He’s averaging six frames per turn on the road while limiting opponents to a .190 batting average. That last figure is important against the Nationals, who do a good job of putting the bat on the ball.
They’re also bottom third in walks, which will theoretically mask Darvish’s tendency to compile high pitch counts.
New York Mets props: Pete Alonso over 0.5 home runs (+360 or better)
Make no mistake, consistently betting on home runs is not the way to manage your bankroll. But sports betting is also about entertainment, so don’t be afraid to take an occasional swing for the fences, if you will.
And if you do, who better than Pete Alonso, who leads the league with 17 dingers? He’s slugging .544 versus lefties with five homers in 57 at-bats. He’s also slugging .636 with a round-tripper against Cubs southpaw Drew Smyly.
