Hertel North Park cancels youth ball season

  • 0

The Hertel North Park Youth Baseball League, one of the largest in the City of Buffalo, has canceled its 2020 seasons for house tee ball, softball and baseball after reviewing a 14-page state document of guidelines for opening youth sports from the city in view of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Hertel North Park ball at Shoshone Park off Hertel Avenue has been a popular and enduring activity in the summer in North Buffalo. The league serves boys ages 4-15 and girls ages 3-16.

"Many of the restrictions would have been difficult to universally apply," the organization said in making its announcement. "Ultimately the fact that we are restricted to using 50% of our diamonds at any given time makes it physically impossible for us to conduct a league with over 750 participants across 11 divisions on only four of our eight diamonds.

"We are deeply saddened that we were forced into this decision."
