Why the 2018-19 Season at Theatre of Youth Is So Exciting

Six imaginative, entertaining and all-around fantastic productions fill Theatre of Youth’s exciting 2018-2019 season.  The season kicks off September 14, but now is the perfect time to clear your calendars so your children can experience TOY’s dynamic 47th Season! Here’s what you can expect:

  1. A Very Pink Musical

The season opens with Pinkalicious.  Elizabeth and Victoria Kann have turned their delightful story into an energetic and fun musical.  The story about a little girl who loves the color pink and just can’t stop eating pink cupcakes, is aided by a fantastic musical score by John Gregor. Pinkalicious’ affinity for pink cupcakes leads to Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe.  At first, it’s a dream come true!  But when her hue goes too far, how will she work out her troubles?  This production will paint Buffalo pink!  September 14-October 7.  Recommended for ages 4+.

  1. Audience Favorites

Two shows return to TOY’s stage due to popular demand.  First, New Kid will again explore the effects of bullying, inclusion, and change by placing the audience in the life of Nick, a boy struggling to adapt after moving to a new home.  This powerful show had audiences talking in 2017-2018; don’t miss out on its return! October 20 & 21. Recommended for ages 9+.

And after its sold out run last Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas will be back on the Theatre of Youth stage this holiday season!  After complaining about the commercialization of Christmas, young Charlie takes on the role of director for his school’s holiday pageant. Along the way, he and his friends learn the true meaning of the Christmas season. December 1-16. Recommended for ages 3+.

  1. Beloved Classics

The timeless story of Tuck Everlasting will take viewers on an adventure exploring the power of love, the laws of time, and what it means to live a full and meaningful life.  When confronted with a choice to live forever, what will young Winifred chose?  This engaging story will be a perfect conversation starter for the whole family.  February 2-10, 2019. Recommended for ages 9+.

Rudyard Kipling’s adventurous classic, The Jungle Book, follows the precocious Mowgli as he is raised by caring wolves, befriended by a panther and bear, and threatened by the evil tiger, Shere Khan.  But when he discovers he is human, Mowgli must make a choice.  It all adds up to an entertaining coming of age story. March 16-April 7, 2019. Recommended for ages 6+.

The final production in the 18-19 season is a super special announcement and will be announced soon. Dates are May 4 – June 1, 2019, and it appeals to children ages 4+.
