Don’t miss Fun Home, winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, live on stage at Shea’s 710 Theatre, May 9-19. Fun Home is produced by MusicalFare Theatre and is based on the popular graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, with book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and music by Jeanine Tesori. This musical is directed by Susan Drozd and features an amazing cast, beautiful songs, and addresses both the importance of truth and the power of acceptance.
The story follows Alison as she works on writing her present-day memoir at three different stages of her life. She reflects on memories of her childhood in small town Pennsylvania, playing in the family funeral home (known to her siblings as the “Fun Home”). In her first year away at college, she comes to terms with her sexuality, and as an adult, she learns to accept a (not so secret) family secret. As Alison illustrates her journey throughout the story, she unveils the truth of her father, and begins to resolve the dysfunction and strife that has plagued the Bechdel family.
The New York Daily News calls Fun Home; “AN UPLIFTING MUSICAL DRAMA OF RARE INTENSITY, HONESTY AND BEAUTY. It speaks universally about BIG THINGS THAT MATTER: LIFE, LOVE, FAMILY, SURVIVING. It’s unconventional, to be sure, and musical theatre is better for it.” – New York Daily News
