Amherst police were alerted to a robbery attempt at a Kenmore Avenue gas station near Englewood Avenue about 3 a.m. Friday. A  thief handed over a note claiming he had a firearm, and  the clerk pulled the alarm, police said. The thief fled on foot, failing to get any cash.
