“We are taking down the Skyway, an idea first proposed 50 years ago and creating a spectacular park overlooking Lake Erie," Cuomo said in a State of the State speech.
“We must replace fossil fuel power with clean energy power. There is no ifs ands or buts about it, and now is the time to do it,’’ the governor said.
The state will open hundreds of rapid testing sites on a pop-up basis to help theaters, restaurants and offices to more fully open, and it will work with commercial property owners to help bring some office workers back to their jobs.
Cuomo used his 11th State of the State address to call for a new “spirit of optimism” and diligence to fight the pandemic.
The governor has already signaled his speech won’t be all gloom and doom, and he will put a priority on rebuilding New York from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Cuomo and the Democratic-controlled Legislature need to be New York smart in their approach," writes The News' Editorial Board.
