While watching a news clip of Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a press conference recently, I could scarcely believe my ears. This paragon of all ludicrous liberal policies actually said “Police departments have to enforce the law. They have to enforce the law. That is the only line between anarchy and civilization. They have to enforce the law, and they’re not.”
I actually thought this meant that he was calling for putting an end to the lawlessness we’ve been experiencing lately, and that people who rioted, destroyed property, and attacked police officers would be stopped and brought to justice. Of course, then reality hit. He also said, “To our local governments, I say, look! You don’t want to enforce the law because you think it’s politically unpopular, uh, and you don’t want to do something that’s politically unpopular, I’ll tell you what’s more politically unpopular, when you’re going to have to explain to the people why we had to close all bars and restaurants.”
This is where his priorities lie. Police need to enforce “social distancing,” mask-wearing, and no walk-up drink service in restaurants and bars. From his actions and statements, it’s pretty clear he actually thinks it’s more important to enforce policies that may well drive small business owners out of business than it is to protect the public from rioting.
I don’t recall his demanding police enforce the law after attacks on police officers while they try to protect the public, destruction what is probably tens of millions of dollars of public and private property, and “occupation” of public and private property.
