At least 21 people were killed after powerful storms and at least one tornado pummeled Mississippi on Friday night, ripping roofs off homes, nearly leveling some neighborhoods and knocking out power for thousands, officials said Saturday morning.

Gwyneth Paltrow has testified about a 2016 ski collision at a Utah ski resort where a man is suing her, saying he's since suffered from broken ribs and brain damage. Paltrow says Friday that the 76-year-old Utah man is the culprit for the collision at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, and her legal team has raised questions about the man's motivations to bring a suit that could exploit her fame. After a judge threw out an earlier $3.1 million dollar lawsuit, the man is now seeking at least $300,000. In a counterclaim, Paltrow is seeking a symbolic $1 and attorney fees.

President Joe Biden says the U.S. will respond “forcefully” to protect its personnel after U.S. forces retaliated with airstrikes on sites in Syria used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. The U.S. strikes followed a suspected Iranian-linked attack Thursday that killed a U.S. contractor and wounded six other Americans in northeast Syria. “The United States does not, does not seek conflict with Iran,” Biden said in Ottawa, Canada, where he is on a state visit. But he said the U.S. is prepared “to act forcefully to protect our people. That’s exactly what happened last night.” Activists said the U.S. bombing killed at least four people.
