After a standoff in Lackawanna that lasted nearly five hours Saturday, police arrested a man who had to be tear-gassed out of a home after holding a woman and 8-month-old child hostage.

Lackawanna Police were called to a house around noon Saturday regarding a domestic violence incident, but the Erie County Sheriff's SWAT unit had to be called when Christopher Marchese, 27, refused to leave or to allow the woman and child leave the house, according to reports by WGRZ and WKBW television stations. The incident took place near the corner of Lebanon Street and Steelawanna Avenue.

The woman was choked unconscious, according to WKBW, but was eventually allowed to leave with the baby, who was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital. Marchese was charged with unlawful imprisonment, criminal obstruction, resisting arrest, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
