Amherst police charge Buffalo man with second-degree burglary

A Buffalo man was charged Thursday with second-degree burglary, attempted grand larceny and criminal tampering after Amherst police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the area of Sheridan Drive and Bailey Avenue in the town .

At the time of the dispatch, police said the homeowner reported that she could see an unknown individual enter her home and manipulate several of her security cameras. Officers arrived on the scene, surrounded the home, and ordered the suspect to exit the residence.

Police said 31-year-old Jimmy T. Garcia was taken into custody and was held for arraignment in Buffalo City Court.

A subsequent investigation by the Amherst Police Department Detective Bureau linked Garcia to other burglary and property crimes in the area.

The alleged burglary was still under investigation.
