A Buffalo man and a woman from Kenmore have been arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said Archie Butler, 42, and Jamielah Huggins, 37, were both observed by law enforcement officers conducting surveillance at the Aloft Hotel on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga on Oct. 16. Investigators had received information about the possibility of a bulk narcotics transaction allegedly involving Butler, who is on post-release supervision following his conviction on a prior drug-related felony.

Butler was seen in a vehicle driven by Huggins when two men exited the hotel and approached them. The three men talked briefly, after which they all entered the hotel together. Butler was carrying a purple luggage bag. About 15 minutes later, Butler, allegedly still carrying the bag, and Huggins left the hotel. They were arrested at the scene.

A search of the luggage bag revealed five pressed powder cocaine bricks wrapped in cellophane and duct tape, weighing about 5.6 kilograms.
