Mickey Rooney has been married eight times in his 71 years, but never to the woman he says was his greatest love -- the late Judy Garland, his frequent co-star in 1940s musicals.

"There was no love greater in my life than my love for Judy Garland," Rooney said in a CNBC interview with Dick Cavett set for broadcast today. "She was 'my girl' and in my heart, we belonged together."

Garland died in 1969.

Among Rooney's wives were Ava Gardner and Martha Vickers.
