Services were held Monday in Jerusalem for Barbara Massis, former secretary at the Kadimah School and the Torah Center here and at Chafetz Chaim, a yeshiva in New York City.
Mrs. Massis died Friday in Roswell Park Cancer Institute following a brief illness. She was 75.
Mrs. Massis lived in North Buffalo for 17 years and was president of the Sisterhood at the Saranac Synagogue, and in charge of fund-raising there. Rabbi David Massis, her husband of 17 years, was the spiritual leader at the Saranac Synagogue. He died last Sept. 13.
The former Barbara Plapinger was born in the Bronx and attended City College of New York. She received an award for community service from the Saranac Synagogue.
Mrs. Massis was previously married to the late Sidney Shlian.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Goldstein of Jerusalem; three sons, Robert Shlian of West Palm Beach, Fla., Gary Shlian of Edison, N.J., and George Shlian of Netanya, Israel; a brother, Wallace Plapinger of Manhattan; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
