The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy announced names for its new flotilla of four pink flamingo paddle boats on Hoyt Lake known as the FLOATmingos.
The winning names were the Billa FLOtilla, Bird on Weck, Cheeri-FLO and FLOganberry. The names were chosen from among more than 500 entries, with more than 2,000 names to choose from. Special bumper stickers will be placed on each FLOATmingo with its new name.
“Buffalonians are proud of their city and region, especially when it comes to football and food,” said Stephanie Crockatt, the Conservancy's executive director. “It was great to see such enthusiasm for this FLOAT-astic project.”
The Buffalo Maritime Center partnered with the Conservancy to make the project possible.
Rowboat and FLOATmingo rentals are available daily from noon to 8pm, weather depending. Rental rates are $10 for 30 minutes for rowboats and $15 for 30 minutes for the FLOATmingo paddle boats.
