Content Savvy, a software firm based in Snyder that specializes in analyzing vast amounts of online data, has agreed to be acquired by a British technology company.

SmartFocus, which is headquartered in London, said today that its acquisition of Content Savvy follows its strategy of investing in big data, boosts the company’s patent holdings and provides the company’s clients with a deeper understanding of their customers’ online activities.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Content Savvy was founded by Rohini K. Srihari, a University at Buffalo professor of computer science and engineering who previously started the software companies Cymfony and Janya.

Her companies design programs to help computers sift through large stores of data to help client companies and agencies to extract relevant pieces of information.

For example, Content Savvy works on behalf of marketers to monitor and put into context data mined from social media sites. Content Savvy also is active in healthcare analytics.

And Srihari’s companies have performed classified government work, including on behalf of the military.

Srihari said in a statement that Content Savvy expects to provide “context-aware marketing” to SmartFocus clients, a service that is built on understanding customer behavior and other factors.

She said Content Savvy expects to hire additional computer scientists, including computational linguists and data-crunching experts, to handle the extra work generated by the acquisition. Srihari will join SmartFocus as its chief scientist.

SmartFocus describes itself as an online leader in technologies that allow companies to send the right personalized message to the right customer at the right time.
