More than 1,200 tax-delinquent properties sold at the City of Buffalo's auctions between 2009 and 2014 netted surpluses that have not yet been returned to the original owners.
The biggest surplus is nearly $150,000 and the smallest is $71.49. More than half of the surpluses are for more than $6,000.
The auctioned-off properties with surpluses are on more than 500 streets across the city, including West, Fillmore and Hertel avenues.
Also, the sale of 75 properties at the Erie County auctions between 2011 and 2014 netted surpluses that have not yet been returned to the original owners. The biggest surplus is $65,938 and the smallest one is $483. The auctioned properties are in the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga and Hamburg among many other towns and villages.
