Letter: Caputo’s vile remarks should not be ignored

Michael Caputo has been and continues to be a Donald Trump loyalist, who was just appointed as the assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services. He is clearly a powerful and vengeful man. (Does that sound like someone else?)

In his new job he has the ability to affect positively or negatively one of the jewels of Western New York – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

We should be concerned! I find it very disturbing that Roswell Park Cancer Institute has ignored the First Amendment in its dealings with Laura Krolczyk’s firing over her personal comments, on her personal social media platform. It is very clear that this was not an official Roswell opinion, rather her own Facebook account, which is available to her “friends.”

In a Facebook post, Krolczyk wrote, “Trump supporters need to pledge to give up their ventilators for someone else … and not go to the hospital.”

Caputo was the person who sent a “screenshot” of this post to Roswell.

This is interesting, considering that his public tweets are laced with racist comments. He posted: “Millions of Chinese suck the blood out of rabid bats as an appetizer;” (about the coronavirus) “The Dems’ strategy to defeat @realDonaldTrump requires 100s of thousands of American deaths. Will one of their nutjobs make it happen a la Hodgkinson?”

Let’s not ignore his inflammatory tweet, “The left hate normal Americans and they want us all dead and replaced. Act as if they mean it because they do.” (Curiously he was appointed after making these comments, and the posts have been taken down.).

We are fortunate to have Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western New York but should be saddened and angry that the spineless gave in to the obvious political pressure from someone like Caputo.
