Hot dog stands reopen for the season

Rejoice hot dog fans. Seasonal hot dog stands, a sure sign of the summer season, are finally opening after delays related to Covid-19 restrictions.

There are some changes, however, at least for now. There's no seating indoors or out (although some spots allow you to eat in your car). Social distancing is practiced at each stand. You must wear a face mask and follow the signs that most of these businesses for guidance. Be sure to check on payment options too, since those also may have changed.

Connors Hot Dog Stand, 8905 Lake Shore Road, Angola (549-1257)
Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Place your order via drive-thru only (no phone or preorders). Credit cards only (no cash). Order from a limited menu found on its website, including hot dogs, burgers (plus veggie), grilled cheese, french fries, milk shakes and soft serve.

George's, 5808 Herman Hill Road, Hamburg
Hours: noon to 7 p.m.

Open for takeout only. Place orders by phone (648-0320 or 255-2772) and pay with a credit card. When you call, you'll be told when your order will be ready and given a reserved parking spot number for curbside pickup. No eating on the premises including in the parking lot. The playground is closed.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Takeout only. Order food inside, where there is a limit of 10 patrons at a time. Ice cream can be ordered at the outside window. Full menu is served. Social distancing of 8 feet apart. No seating, but you can eat in your car or along the river.

Old Man River, 375 Niagara St., Tonawanda (693-5558)
Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Drive-thru only with selection of seasonal favorites like hot dogs and burgers, plus chicken and ribs from the smokehouse and fresh clams and mussels from Ommar's Seafood Shack. Find list on its menu.

Great Hot Dog Drive: Five Buffalo-area stops for frank satisfaction

Rayzor's Dawg House, 8178 N. Main St., Eden (575-4331).
Hours: 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Place your order at the inside counter, where you can peruse sports memorabilia while waiting for your order. Follow social distancing signs. No seating, but you can eat in your car in the parking lot.

Red Top, 3360 Big Tree Road, Hamburg
Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays through Sundays (and Memorial Day); 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursday.

Cash only. Pull into parking lot, follow arrows to the window where there is a menu and place your order. Park and they'll bring your order to your car.

Sullivan's Hot Dogs and Ice Cream, 501 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls (236-4119)

Hours: 11 a.m. to noon.

Open for takeout only, no indoor or outdoor seating but you can eat in your car. Order at the outside window only (no phone orders); cash only. Limited food menu includes the essentials like hot dogs, burgers, fries, onion rings, tenders and clams. All 100-plus milkshake flavors are available. Just want a milkshake? Visit the Taffy's milkshake truck in the parking lot.

Ted's, multiple locations

This year-round favorite has adjusted its business model to offer drive-thru services. Drive up and online ordering of the full menu are offered outside of all Ted's, except for the Transit Road location. Driving lines have been placed in Ted's parking lots to take you to a "tent" where you place your order or give your name if you ordered online. The Ted's Food Truck will be in the Eastern Hills Mall parking lot.

Tony's Bayview Drive-In, 3804 Lakeshore Road, Blasdell (824-5002)
Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Offering takeout and carside service of full menu and 24 flavors of ice cream plus soft serve. For takeout, call 824-5002 and pay with credit or debit card (also order via Grubhub and Doordash). For carside pick up, a worker will take your order at your car and direct you to a parking spot with a letter where you'll wait for your order. Customers also can order inside the recently renovated dining room (no seating allowed); you must wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart.
