Lewiston police and the Niagara County District Attorney's Office on Thursday identified the man they say was the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash May 7 on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation.
Michael A. Blackburn, 23, of North Avenue, Niagara Falls, was charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
District Attorney Caroline A. Wojtaszek said Blackburn was placed under the supervision of the county Probation Department after his arraignment. His next court date is June 25.
Blackburn allegedly was driving a white sport utility vehicle, heading south on Garlow Road, that collided with an eastbound all-terrain vehicle that entered the roadway from a field shortly after 2 a.m. The ATV driver, Evonne Printup Rice, 28, was found in the field about 40 yards east of the crash site. She was pronounced dead at the scene, town police said.
Police found the SUV at the scene, but the driver wasn't there when police arrived. Blackburn was arrested in Niagara Falls about 6:45 a.m. May 7.
