The Rochester Amerks have signed Swedish winger Jesper Olofsson, the older brother of Sabres sniper Victor Olofsson, to a one-year AHL contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Media reports out of Sweden on Monday had Jesper Olofsson coming to North America and quoted him as saying he had already signed his contract. The reports pegged him as likely signing with the Sabres but the contract he signed is an AHL-only deal to play in Rochester for the 2020-21 season.
Jesper Olofsson, 28, spent the last five seasons in the Swedish Hockey League and his best seasons were the last two with Färjestad. Following a career-high 33-point campaign in 2018-19, the 5-foot-11, 183-pound Olofsson finished this season seventh in the SHL with 17 goals and tied for seventh on the team with 28 points in 44 games.
Jesper Olofsson has 69 goals 125 points in 254 career SHL games with four teams. Victor Olofsson played for the Amerks in the 2018-19 season and burst on the scene with the Sabres this year as an NHL rookie with 20 goals.
