Voutour, Beilein endorse Filicetti for Niagara sheriff

Former Niagara County Sheriffs James R. Voutour and Thomas A. Beilein on Wednesday endorsed acting Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti's candidacy in this year's election.

Filicetti, R-Lewiston, has been endorsed for sheriff by both major parties, but he faces a June 23 Democratic primary against Lewiston Police Officer Brian D. Grear, who served 25 years as a sheriff's deputy. Grear lost to Beilein in the 2005 election.

Voutour and Beilein are Democrats.

Beilein, who served from 1993 to 2008, hired Filicetti as a road patrol deputy and promoted him to sergeant and captain. Voutour, who served from 2009 until retiring Dec. 30, appointed Filicetti as administrative captain and later undersheriff.

"Mike Filicetti is someone I trust to lead our Niagara County Sheriff’s Office through these stressful times and beyond," Beilein said.

"Mike will hit the ground running because he knows what needs to be done to protect you and your loved ones," Voutour said.
