The Town of Amherst issued a reminder Wednesday to local construction contractors that they must submit a "workplace safety plan" and a state "business affirmation" to the town Building Department if they want to continue or restart work in the town.
The memo, citing the reopening of certain businesses on Tuesday under phase one of the state's plan, said any new or pending permit applications must have those items on file before the permit will be issued. It also said that for any open permits, no certificates of occupancy or certificates of compliance will be issued until the safety plan and affirmation are on file.
The state had said earlier this week that it would not require the plans to be submitted to Albany.
The department said it will not accept submissions by U.S. mail or by email to any individual code enforcement officers. The town asked for any documents to be emailed to email@example.com, which will result in an automatic reply email with a link to the state guidance and a link to the town's online form that will allow contractors to submit the documentation.
