The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Niagara County has risen by 48 since Friday, bringing the county's total to 844 since the pandemic began, the Niagara County Health Department announced Monday.
Fifty have died so far, the county said, although the state Health Department, which often receives death information before the county does, lists the county death toll at 54.
The state said that as of Saturday, 34 people have died of Covid-19 in Niagara County nursing homes, 24 of them in Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
The county Health Department has said that facility accounts for about 80% of the positive Covid-19 cases in the Town of Newfane, where 132 cases have been confirmed as of Monday.
The county said 16 residents are hospitalized with Covid-19 – a decrease of four since Friday – with 322 isolated at home and 456 deemed to have recovered.
