Two Niagara Falls men were arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing cough medicine and cold tablets from a Rite Aid store in the City of Tonawanda.
Police arrived at the Niagara Street store after receiving a report of two men acting suspiciously inside the Rite Aid. Police said the two men attempted to flee the area in a vehicle, but were boxed in by officers who prevented the suspects from crossing the Renaissance Bridge into North Tonawanda.
According to police, 43-year-old Marcus Mathis of Falls Street was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, obstructing governmental administration, failure to yield and two other traffic charges.
Also arrested by police was Nicholas S. Lewis of Cudaback Avenue, who was charged with obstructing governmental administration, petit larceny, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police recovered a pouch of suspected heroin and crushed hydrocodone from Lewis.
Police said they also recovered all the items that were reportedly stolen from the store, including cough medicine, cold tablets and cleaning supplies.
