The Niagara County Health Department on Friday announced the deaths of four people in their 80s and 90s from Covid-19, bringing the county's official tally of virus fatalities to 50.
The four were an 86-year-old man and women aged 89, 90 and 95, all with underlying health conditions. All were from nursing homes, a county spokesman said.
Some of those deaths could been tied to the Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, where state figures show 23 deaths as of Thursday.
Newfane Supervisor Timothy R. Horanburg said three more Covid-19 death certificates from Newfane Rehab have been received at Town Hall, one Thursday and two Friday. That would increase the death toll at that nursing home to 26.
The county's announced death total lags behind the state Health Department figure, which was 52 as of Friday morning.
The county announced it has had 796 positive Covid-19 tests as of Friday, with 30 newly confirmed cases in the previous 24 hours.
It said 20 patients are currently hospitalized, 279 are isolated at home, and 447 have recovered. The county also listed 183 people in quarantine and 645 who have completed quarantine.
