Three more death certificates have been received at Newfane Town Hall for patients from the Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center who died of Covid-19, Supervisor Timothy R. Horanburg said Tuesday.
That brings the total to 20 reported Covid-19 deaths at the nursing home since April 30.
One death certificate was received each day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
State figures, last updated Sunday, attribute 21 deaths at Newfane Rehab to Covid-19 since the pandemic began in March.
The state website lists 47 deaths for Niagara County.
The two victims the county reported Tuesday were a 49-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, both with underlying health conditions. The man was only the fourth of the county's 44 victims to be under the age of 60.
The county reported 28 new confirmed Covid-19 cases Tuesday, making its total 720. Of those, 116 are in Newfane, an increase of 19 cases since Friday.
County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton has said state Health Department inspectors, who spent Friday and Saturday at Newfane Rehab, carried out more testing there. It was not known Tuesday whether the Newfane caseload increase stems from those tests.
Countywide, 21 patients are hospitalized, an increase of five since Monday. The county said 299 patients are isolated at home, a day-to-day increase of 18, while 356 patients are deemed to have recovered, an increase of three from Monday.
