Retail job losses continued in mid-April, as Bed Bath & Beyond, Hard Rock Cafe and Visionworks all furloughed employees both locally and statewide, according to new filings with the state Department of Labor.
Bed Bath & Beyond said in a WARN notice that it had cut 79 jobs at its Amherst store at The Boulevard, at 1701 Niagara Falls Blvd. That was one of 23 stores across 11 counties in seven regions of the state that were affected. In all, the company said, 1,893 employees were furloughed.
Hard Rock Cafe International USA furloughed 58 workers at its Niagara Falls restaurant at 333 Prospect St.
Eye-care provider Visionworks furloughed 29 employees at its five Western New York locations, located at 3843 Union Road in Cheektowaga; 3540 McKinley Parkway in Hamburg, 1308 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Tonawanda, 5716 S. Transit Road in Lockport and 2680 Delaware Ave. Another 11 were furloughed at two locations in Rochester.
All cited Covid-19 disruptions as the cause, since the businesses are shuttered.
