A Pendleton company that manufactures hand sanitizer around the clock will give away about 5,000 bottles of its product Saturday.
SunBeam Laboratories opened two years ago on Donner Road to produce cannabidiol, or CBD, products. It used ethanol in its hemp extraction process, owner Dan Casacci said.
A few months ago, his son Christopher Casacci, a SunBeam co-owner, suggested using the ethanol to branch out into hand sanitizer production. Now, Dan Casacci said, the plant produces 50,000 bottles a day and employs 60 people working three shifts, seven days a week.
The company's 80% ethanol sanitizer is given away to police and fire agencies and utilities, as well as sold to other manufacturers, Casacci said.
Saturday's giveaway is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. at the Transit Drive-In Theatre, 6655 S. Transit Road, Lockport. The limit is two 2-ounce bottles per vehicle. Any first responder or medical worker also can take a free N95 face mask, which SunBeam bought from a Chinese supplier, Casacci said.
