Six patients die from Covid-19 at Delaware Avenue nursing home

Six people have died from Covid-19 at the Buffalo Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, according to data released Monday by the state Health Department.

The Delaware Avenue nursing home joins three others in Erie County that the state has identified as facilities where five or more patients have died from the disease. Nine have died at Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park; nine at Harris Hill Nursing Facility; and 12 at Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga through Sunday, according to the state data.

Buffalo Center spokesperson Jeffrey Jacomowitz declined to say how many patients or staff members have been tested for the virus and how many have tested positive. He said anyone at the facility who is exhibiting Covid symptoms has been tested. Staff members are assigned to specific units and do not work on other units, he said. Common areas are disinfected twice a day.

In total, 61 people have died from Covid-19 at nursing homes and adult care facilities in Erie County. The state reports Covid-19 deaths by nursing home only in cases where five or more people die.

Eight people have died from the disease in nursing homes and adult care facilities in Niagara County, according to the state. No single facility has had five or more patients die from Covid-19.
