All campgrounds in Erie County will be prohibited from opening as of 9 a.m. Wednesday under a new order issued Tuesday by County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
Poloncarz announced the order on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
The order covers campgrounds, as defined by state law and which require a permit to operate, Poloncarz said.
"The nature of activity at campgrounds does not allow for the practice of effective social-distancing," the order says, in part.
The order remains in effect for five days and may be renewed in five-day increments.
Based on reports we've received, and as approved by NYS, today I've signed an emergency order closing all campgrounds (as defined by NY law and which require a permit to operate) in Erie County, and prohibiting camping at any of these sites, effective 9 am tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/LudY3KsxnO
