The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Board of Trustees has agreed to temporarily close all 37 library branches of the local public library system in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowki announced Monday.
In a statement, Jakubowski said the libraries will remain closed until such time that the guidance of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo supports reopening them.
"Decisions like these do not come easy as it means a continued, albeit temporary, loss of access to the in-person services, resources and gathering spaces the library is known for providing to so many in our community," Jakubowski said.
The system's virtual library will remain open online at www.BuffaloLib.org, she said.
