For a weekend in the middle of June, Buffalo's Allentown neighborhood is traditionally bustling with artisans from around the country and their artwork, along with thousands of festival-goers – but not this year.
The 63rd annual Allentown Art Festival set for June 13 and 14 has been canceled for this year, according to a posting on the organization's website.
"This is a very hard decision for our membership to make," said Rita Harrington, president of the Allentown Art Festival, in a message on the group's website.
"The date of our festival and the threat of the coronavirus pandemic still being active were just too close for the safety and well-being of everyone involved, from our members, our artists and you," Harrington said, referring to festival patrons.
She said the organization will be posting the websites of the artists scheduled to exhibit their works this year, possibly offering another venue through which to support them.
