The state Department of Health on Friday approved Catholic Health's request to open a closed Orchard Park nursing home to care for individuals with Covid-19, the department announced.
The former Absolut Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Orchard Park is expected to open April 10, admitting Covid-19 patients discharged from Catholic Health’s hospitals who are not well enough to return home.
Partnering with Catholic Health is the McGuire Group, which operates five highly rated nursing homes in this region, two sources told The Buffalo News earlier this week.
The Absolut chain was purchased in February by Long Island businessman Edward Farbenblum, a majority co-owner of the McGuire Group.
Initially, there would be 80 beds in the nursing home, with the possibility of expanding that number, the sources said. The Absolut facility was closed last fall when its former owner filed for bankruptcy reorganization.
The facility would also accept admissions of individuals infected with the novel coronavirus from the public, the sources said.
