The three major health insurers serving the Buffalo Niagara region are waiving members' costs related to Covid-19.
• BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York said is eliminating costs for members related to Covid-19 testing and treatment, including its nearly 500,000 Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and fully insured commercial members.
No copays, cost-shares, or coinsurance on the part of members will be required April 1 through May 31, the health insurer said.
• Univera Healthcare said for the next 60 days, it will waive out-of-pocket costs for Covid-19 medical testing, diagnosis and treatment for its fully insured employer groups, individual market qualified health plans and Medicare Advantage members.
Univera said its decision waives a member's copayment or cost share for testing, diagnosis and treatment, even if that treatment is delivered in a hospital. Univera said it will also work with self-funded customers who want to implement a similar approach.
• Independent Health said it will waive copayments or cost-sharing for Covid-19 medical testing, diagnosis and treatment for its fully insured employer groups, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and individual plan members through May 31.
Independent Health previously announced it will cover in-network telehealth/telemedicine services, whether or not Covid-19 related, to encourage social distancing and help reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus. There will be $0 copay or cost-sharing for those services.
