SING, Ruth M.

SING - Ruth M. Age 102, of Kenmore, NY, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2020, surrounded by her family and beloved cat; preceded in death by husband Daniel Y. Sing; Ruth was the daughter of immigrants from China and Poland; mother of six daughters and two sons; grandmother of twelve; great-grandmother of four. Ruth was a champion of the home arts, gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and welcoming new neighbors with home baked goodies. She had a flair for organization, a necessity with eight children. After raising her family, Ruth worked at the University of Buffalo School of Management. In retirement, she enjoyed swimming and water exercise, befriending people both young and old. Ruth volunteered at blood drives, studied Polish and tutored children in reading. She lived through the Depression, WWII and worked as a stenographer and technician in the lab where Dr. Jonas Salk developed the first polio vaccine. She received a wartime commendation for this important work at the University of Michigan. Ruth adapted as the world changed technologically, politically and socially. We love her and miss her greatly. Donations in honor of Ruth, may be made to Ken-Ton YMCA, Hospice Buffalo, U.B. International Student Scholarship Fund or Hope For Cats, Inc. A Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.
