Erie County will offer drive-up Covid-19 testing by appointment this week, officials said Tuesday.
The testing will be offered through the county Department of Health's epidemiology office. Prior authorization by a doctor is required, officials said.
The testing was slated to start within the next day, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said Tuesday afternoon during question-and-answer session streamed on Facebook Live.
Appointment slots will be limited by the county's capacity based on available materials, including swabs and reagent, a health department spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman would not say where or precisely when the testing would occur.
The county had previously been tight-lipped about a drive-up specimen collection site set up last week at Twin District Firehall in Lancaster, an operation that was closed after barely more than a day due to a lack of supplies.
