Two Buffalo police officers test positive for Covid-19

Two Buffalo police officers in the Ferry-Fillmore District have tested positive for Covid-19, the police union confirmed Monday night.

A third officer from that district is also showing symptoms and has been tested, but the results are not yet reported.

The officers who have the novel coronavirus are now off duty and will remain so until the symptoms have subsided, according to John Evans, president of the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association.

"The tests results came back this afternoon," Evans said. "The third officer works closely with either one or both of the two officers who tested positive."

While only three officers have been tested for the virus to this point, the union president said he believes that in the coming days more officers will show symptoms.

"That's because of the rapid and seemingly contagious nature of this virus. It is aggressive," Evans said.

There are approximately 740 police officers on the city force.

He said the three officers are younger and all males.

"They are certainly in our prayers. We just hope this whole thing runs its course as quickly as possible," Evans said.
