Letter: Corporate socialism exists in the form of tax breaks

It seems that many voters decry socialism and proclaim that it has no place in the United States. Well, I’ve got news for you. It’s already here and flourishing. Except it’s corporate socialism. Our new Tesla factory was paid for lock stock and barrel by taxpayers to the tune of over half a billion dollars. And it seems that anytime a business is planning to expand they rush to get outright grants, or property tax waivers or other goodies such as exemptions for recording fees from the various outfits that can bestow such gifts.

I could go on and on. For example, our most expensive real estate in Buffalo, the lake shore condos received huge grants or deductions because it was in an economic zone that would benefit the low income.

Yes, corporate socialism means the rest of us will pay to make up the shortfall in taxes. I was amused when an individual, who had planned extensive renovations to his home asked for property and sales tax exemptions citing the fact he was going to provide employment for the people rehabbing his house. I thought that was fair … but he was turned down flat.

The only large project that I know of that didn’t request all the government goodies were the Indian tribes that constructed casinos here in Western New York.
