All State Department of Motor Vehicles offices and auto bureaus across the state are closed until further notice, DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder announced Saturday. The only services available will be by mail or online.
The closings include county-run offices as well as state-run offices, Schroeder said in a press release.
All road tests, DMV office reservations and salvage vehicle appointments also are canceled until further notice, Schroeder said.
Expiration dates for driver’s licenses, non-driver IDs and vehicle registrations set to expire on or after March 1 will be extended while offices are closed, he added, but they can still be renewed by mail or online at dmv.ny.gov.
“We will continue to offer a wide selection of online transactions during this shutdown,” Schroeder said.
He noted that the closings are in compliance with provisions under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order on closing non-essential businesses.
