Expensive tastes lead to arrest outside Falls liquor store

A Buffalo woman was arrested outside a liquor store Friday afternoon after she allegedly tried to steal almost $800 worth of mostly top-shelf spirits, Niagara Falls Police reported.

Carlette L. Montgomery, 56, of Delaware Avenue, was stopped just before 4 p.m. as she pushed a shopping cart full of alcohol out the entrance door to Supermarket Liquors, 8438 Niagara Falls Blvd., police said.

Among the items in the cart were an 18-year-old bottle of Glenmorangie Scotch whiskey valued at $136, Remi Martin cognac valued at $96, two different packages of Hennessy cognac valued at $251 and $167, respectively, and other lesser-priced bottles of whiskey and other drinks.

The total value of the stolen items was $772.83, police said. Montgomery was charged with petit larceny.
