Traffic on the New York State Thruway is far lighter than normal, given the non-essential workers told to stay home, schools closed and businesses shutting down.
Thruway spokeswoman Jennifer Givner said Friday that figures from toll booths show passenger traffic is off 30% from last week, before Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo began instructing many New Yorkers to stay home.
Commercial traffic also is down, but by less than 10%, Givner said.
"People are adhering to that warning, to stay home," Givner said. "We're seeing that reflected in our traffic figures."
In March 2019, 640,000 passenger vehicles and 132,000 commercial vehicles drove through the Williamsville toll barrier.
