Letter: Cuomo must not dictate wind turbines, solar farms

As a boat owner who also paddle boards, fishes and enjoys the sunsets on Lake Erie, I am shocked and appalled that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is attempting to abrogate numerous county, town and village laws, along with his own 2019 law (ironically referred to as the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act), by authoring new “emergency regulations” to remove any and all home rule input, as well as zoning laws controlling the placement of wind turbines and solar farms.

In this instance, our governor is behaving exactly like the blowhard in the Oval Office, dictating to New Yorkers what they do and do not need in their communities. Therefore, please consider initiating and cultivating a dialogue with the various municipalities where developers are proposing these wind and solar projects. Otherwise, groups like ours will tie up these projects for years in the courts, and no one “wins,” least of all mother earth. And last, but certainly not least, groups like ours also will begin to search for another political candidate who will listen to their constituent’s concerns, not dictate to us like we are children.
