Buffalo's playgrounds, sports courts & fields closed amid reports of gatherings of large groups

The City of Buffalo's playgrounds, athletic courts and fields were closed Friday after reports of large groups of people gathering to play basketball and soccer, using  playground equipment and engaging in other activities bringing them into close physical contact with others.

The parks remain open for walking or running as long as individuals maintain a distance of six feet from others, Mayor Byron W. Brown said Friday.

Buffalo police will patrol the city's parks to enforce the new measure.

"We don't want to see any gatherings now," Brown said.

The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park remains closed.

All other gatherings in the city are prohibited, with no exceptions, according to Brown's Covid-19 update.
